Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 16, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the Callout application ("App"), operated by Bartlett Software LLC ("Developer," "we," "us," or "our"), handles your information. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
In short: Callout has no servers and no accounts. Everything you create stays on your device — and, if you have Android Backup turned on, in your own cloud storage account. The Developer never receives it either way.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
The App allows you to create alarm routines, including routine names, event labels, time settings, spoken callout text, audio recordings you make with your device's microphone, audio files you import from your device, and audio preferences. All of this data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to any server or third party.
1.2 Information We Do Not Collect
The App does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number, address)
- Location data
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Browsing history
- Contacts, photos, or other media
- Financial or payment information (purchases are handled entirely by Google Play)
2. Data Storage
All App data — including your routines, alarm settings, preferences, voice recordings, and imported audio files — is stored on your device using local storage (SQLite database, shared preferences, and local file storage). The Developer has no access to this data.
2.1 Device Backup
The App permits Android's built-in backup service. If you have backup turned on in your device settings, Android may copy the App's data — including your routines, settings, voice recordings, and imported audio — to the cloud storage account associated with your device, so that it can be restored if you set up a new device or reinstall the App.
That backup is performed by Android and is governed by your device manufacturer's and cloud provider's terms and privacy policies, not by this policy. The data goes to your own account; the Developer has no access to it, receives no notification of it, and cannot read, restore, or delete it. You can turn backup off, or exclude Callout from it, in your device settings at any time.
3. Audio Recordings
If you add a recorded audio message to a routine, the App uses your device's microphone to record it.
- Recording happens only while you are actively recording a callout in the App. The App never records in the background.
- Recordings are saved as audio files in the App's private storage on your device.
- Recordings are never uploaded to the Developer, transmitted to any third party, analyzed, or shared. They are played back only by the App, on your device, at the times you scheduled. If you have Android Backup turned on, they are included in your own device backup as described in Section 2.1.
- Removing a recording from an event, or deleting the event or routine that uses it, stops the App from playing that recording. It does not erase the underlying audio file, which remains in the App's private storage. The App deliberately does not delete these files on your behalf, because the same recording may be shared by more than one event or routine.
- To erase recordings from your device, clear the App's data or uninstall the App through your device settings.
You are responsible for complying with applicable laws when recording audio, including obtaining the consent of anyone else whose voice you record where the law requires it.
3.1 Voice Snooze
If you have granted microphone access, the App can listen for the word "snooze" while an alarm is actively ringing, so you can snooze the alarm with your voice. This uses your device's built-in speech recognition service.
- Voice recognition is active only while an alarm is ringing on screen. The App does not listen at any other time.
- When an on-device speech recognizer is available (Android 12 and later), the App prefers it, and your audio is processed entirely on your device. When an on-device recognizer is not available, your device's default speech recognition service is used, which may process audio on the provider's servers depending on the service and your device settings.
- No audio from voice recognition is saved, stored, or transmitted by the App.
- If you do not grant microphone permission, or if your device does not support speech recognition, voice snooze is disabled and the App does not listen for speech.
4. Third-Party Services
4.1 Google Play Store
The App is distributed through the Google Play Store. Google may collect information related to your purchase and download of the App in accordance with Google's own privacy policy. The Developer receives limited, anonymized sales and crash reporting data from Google Play Console but does not receive any personally identifiable information through this channel.
4.2 Text-to-Speech
The App uses a text-to-speech engine installed on your device to deliver verbal callout reminders. The App passes the callout text you wrote to that engine. You can choose which installed engine speaks your callouts, and which of its voices, in the App's settings.
When you choose a specific voice, the App offers only voices that generate speech on your device, so your callout text is not sent anywhere. If you leave a callout on the engine's default voice, the engine selects the voice itself, and some engines may process text on their provider's servers depending on the engine and your device settings.
The App does not request network access of its own. The Developer does not control the behavior of your device's TTS engine; please refer to your device manufacturer's or TTS provider's privacy policy for details on how TTS data is handled.
4.3 No Other Third-Party Services
The App does not integrate with any analytics services, advertising networks, crash reporting tools, social media platforms, or other third-party services beyond those described above. The App contains no advertising and no in-app tracking.
5. Permissions
The App requests the following device permissions:
- Notifications: Required to deliver alarm and callout notifications.
- Full-screen intent: Required to display alarms as full-screen alerts, including when the device is locked.
- Alarms & reminders (exact alarms): Required to sound your alarms and callouts at the exact times you scheduled them.
- Start on boot: Required to restore your scheduled alarms and callouts after the device restarts or the App is updated. The operating system discards pending alarms in those cases, so without this permission an armed routine would silently stop firing.
- Microphone: Used when you record an audio message for a routine (see Section 3) and, if granted, for voice-activated snooze during an active alarm (see Section 3.1). Microphone access is optional; if you do not grant it, recording and voice snooze are unavailable but all other features work normally.
- Audio & storage access: Required only when you choose to import an existing audio file from your device for use as an alarm sound or callout.
- Vibration: Used to vibrate the device when an alarm fires.
- Wake lock and foreground service: Required to wake the screen and keep alarm and callout audio playing reliably until you dismiss it.
These permissions are used solely for the stated purposes and do not result in any data being collected or transmitted.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App does not collect any personal information from any user, no special provisions for children's data are necessary.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can delete individual routines within the App at any time.
Deleting a routine or an event removes it from the App, but does not erase voice recordings or imported audio files from your device's storage, as explained in Section 3. To remove those files, clear the App's data through your device's settings, or uninstall the App entirely — either of which removes all App data, including every voice recording and imported audio file.
The Developer does not retain any copy of your data, and because the Developer holds no copy, clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App is permanent and cannot be undone by us. If you have Android Backup turned on, a copy may still exist in your own cloud storage account; managing or deleting that copy is done through your device and cloud account settings.
8. Data Security
Your data is stored using standard Android local storage mechanisms in the App's private storage area. The security of your data depends on the security of your device. The Developer recommends using device-level security features (screen lock, encryption) to protect your data.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
The Developer reserves the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. The current version is always available in the App under Settings, Privacy Policy. Material changes will be communicated through the App or the App's store listing. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, delete, or port it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Because the App stores all data locally on your device and the Developer does not collect or have access to it, there is no data held by the Developer to access, correct, export, or delete. You can exercise these rights directly by managing or deleting data within the App or through your device's settings.
The Developer does not sell or share personal information, and has no personal information to sell or share.
